A historic coastal city in Tartus Governorate, known in the Phoenician era as Antaradus. It served as an important harbour in the Phoenician period and a way-station along the Roman and Byzantine coastal route, with archaeological remains spanning multiple periods.

An eighteenth-century Ottoman palace in the Old City of Damascus, built in 1749 by the governor Asad Pasha al-Azm. A major example of Damascene domestic architecture, today housing the Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions. Part of the UNESCO Ancient City of Damascus property.

A Phoenician archaeological city in Tartus Governorate dating to the second millennium BCE. Notable for its rock-cut temples, the spindle-shaped funerary towers known as al-Maghazil, and the ancient stadium. One of the most important Phoenician sites on the Syrian coast.

A massive medieval citadel rising over the Old City of Aleppo, inscribed by UNESCO as part of the Ancient City of Aleppo (1986) and on the List of World Heritage in Danger since 2013. One of the oldest and largest fortified hills in the world, with continuous occupation from the third millennium BCE.
