Bio

Al-Qaboun is a residential neighborhood in the northeast of Damascus that was historically part of the city extending around the Ghouta of Damascus. Before the conflict, it included clustered residential and commercial areas. During the war, the neighborhood became an arena for continuous confrontations in intermittent periods, with a siege, evacuation, and rounds of fighting that led to widespread destruction of its infrastructure and buildings, and the loss of essential services for long periods.

Damages

Al-Qaboun is important to Damascus because it is one of the residential neighborhoods located on the city's northeastern axis, connected to road networks leading to Rif Dimashq (Damascus Countryside) and the Ghouta of Damascus. Historically, the area was part of the capital's suburb extension and was provided with local services (local markets, schools, mosques, and small service facilities). Its rehabilitation is important for restoring residential networks and opening transport and communication axes between central Damascus and the eastern areas, just as the return of residency to it is an indicator of the beginning of local societal and economic recovery.
