Syria and Jordan Hold Technical Talks on Expanding Nassib and Jaber Border Crossings

Joint Technical Meeting at Jaber Crossing

A Syrian-Jordanian technical delegation convened at the Jaber border crossing on Wednesday, 29 July 2025, to discuss expansion and rehabilitation projects for both the Nassib and Jaber crossings. The meeting reviewed engineering designs, planned implementation phases, and the technical and operational linkage mechanisms between the two crossings upon project completion, with the aim of ensuring integrated infrastructure and smooth movement of passengers and freight vehicles.

Key Technical Agenda Items

Discussions focused on harmonising technical visions related to entry and exit lanes, operational yards, service corridors, and shared operational facilities. The two sides also examined measures to regulate transit traffic in order to reduce waiting times and improve the operational efficiency and capacity of both crossings.

Delegation Composition

The Syrian delegation included representatives of the Nassib crossing administration and the Directorate of Facilities and Maintenance within the General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs, alongside representatives of the project's implementing company. The Jordanian delegation comprised representatives of the Jaber crossing administration, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, and the company responsible for the Jaber development project.

Commitment to Ongoing Coordination

Both sides agreed to maintain coordination and exchange technical observations throughout the implementation phases, with the goal of aligning projects on both sides of the border and establishing an integrated operational framework that facilitates the movement of trade, transport, and travellers between Syria and Jordan.

Broader Bilateral Cooperation Context

The meeting forms part of the General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs' broader efforts to develop border infrastructure and strengthen cooperation with neighbouring countries. Earlier in July, the Authority's chairman Qutaiba Badawi met with a Jordanian government delegation led by Interior Minister Mazen Abdullah Al-Farayeh to discuss joint coordination on border crossing affairs, transport movement, and trade exchange. Central to those talks was the planned expansion of the Nassib crossing, which includes enlarging operational yards and creating new lanes towards the Jaber crossing.
