Ar-Rastan is an agricultural and market town located between Homs and Hama, historically important for local farming and trade. Before the war it served surrounding rural areas with produce and services. During the conflict it experienced heavy hostilities, causing large-scale damage, population displacement, and disruption to agricultural production and local markets.

Today the town shows partial return of residents and limited rehabilitation efforts, yet basic services (water, electricity, health) remain under strain. Clearance of explosive remnants and comprehensive infrastructure rehabilitation are ongoing needs. Recovery is incremental and heavily dependent on funding, security, and de-mining programs.
