Campaign Overview

The Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate of Rif Dimashq announced on Thursday, 30 April 2025, the completion of a debris-removal campaign that cleared 15,000 cubic metres of rubble from the towns of Bassima and Ain al-Fijeh in the Wadi Barada area. The operation was carried out jointly with Rif Dimashq Governorate and focused on clearing major roads and vital areas within both towns.

Launch and Scope of Operations

The campaign was officially launched on 29 March 2025, when the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management announced through its official channels that the operation aimed to remove approximately 15,000 cubic metres of accumulated debris from primary roads and critical zones in Bassima and Ain al-Fijeh.

Role in the Recovery Process

The Ministry emphasised that debris removal constitutes the first and most fundamental step in the recovery process, as it contributes to creating a safer environment for local residents and opens the path for the rehabilitation of infrastructure and essential public services in the area.

Broader Context

This campaign forms part of the broader field operations conducted by the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, which coordinates rubble-clearance and road-opening efforts across multiple areas of Rif Dimashq, serving as a foundational pillar in efforts to rebuild affected communities and restore services to their residents.
