Bio
Baba Amr is one of the major and symbolically important neighborhoods of Homs, Syria. Before the war, it was a densely populated area with a mix of residential and urban character. During the Syrian conflict, especially during the 2012 Homs offensive, it became a major rebel stronghold and site of intense battles, suffering very heavy destruction.
Damages
Baba Amr holds great symbolic and strategic importance. It was an epicenter of resistance during the Homs siege, so its name became synonymous with the revolution in Syria. The neighborhood also hosts the Homs Municipal Stadium (also known as Baba Amr Stadium), which has a capacity of 25,000 spectators. Historically, the area was originally a small village near the Orontes river valley, later absorbed into Homs as the city expanded. After the war, it’s considered a test case for reconstruction projects, but its redevelopment has been controversial: some accuse the regime of planning demographic changes via redevelopment.
