Bio

Al-Bukamal Bridge (also known as Al-Baghuz Bridge) is a strategic artery in far eastern Syria, near the Iraqi border. It connects Al-Bukamal city to Al-Baghuz and the agricultural villages on the eastern bank of the Euphrates. For decades, it has been the economic lifeline for the border region, facilitating the safe movement of civilians, goods, and agricultural products

Damages

The bridge suffered massive destruction due to heavy airstrikes (specifically in late 2016). The direct hits completely destroyed the main support piers and caused the concrete decks to collapse into the river. This catastrophic damage severed the connection between the two banks, isolating the eastern villages from the city center and forcing residents to rely on dangerous, primitive water ferries and small boats for years
