The Al-Siyasiyah Bridge is widely considered the "lifeline" of Deir ez-Zor. It serves as the main northern land entrance for travelers and cargo coming from the Al-Hasakah governorate and the eastern region. Its strategic importance lies in its role as the vital link between the city center and its northern countryside, historically hosting dense commercial and passenger traffic around the clock.
Damages
The bridge suffered catastrophic destruction due to repeated airstrikes and heavy shelling, which resulted in the total collapse of the concrete decks and support pillars into the river. This destruction completely isolated the city from its northern rural outskirts for years, forcing residents to rely on dangerous river ferries and primitive boats until temporary military bridges were later installed.
