Bio

Homs is a large central Syrian governorate centered on the city of Homs, historically a trade and agricultural hub. Since 2011 parts of the governorate—notably urban centres and strategic towns—experienced intense fighting, population displacement and infrastructure damage. Agricultural plains around Homs remained economically important but suffered disruptions; cultural heritage sites and dense urban quarters took heavy damage.

Damages

As of the latest joint damage and reconstruction assessments, Homs shows partial recovery in some government-controlled districts (services restored selectively), ongoing rubble and infrastructure needs, and large reconstruction financing gaps. Mine/UXO contamination and uneven returns of displaced populations continue to hamper recovery; rehabilitation requires detailed ground surveys and major finance.
