The head of Syria's General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport, Omar Al-Husri, held a video conference meeting with Saudi Deputy Minister of Investment Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Dubaikh to follow up on the implementation of the agreement for the development and operation of Aleppo International Airport, signed between the authority and the Saudi Eilaf Investment Fund.
The meeting focused on reviewing the executive arrangements tied to the project and examining the timeline for commencing field operations, with the aim of ensuring that work begins in accordance with the agreed technical, legal, and operational standards.
The Saudi delegation included Ahmed Al-Muhayri, adviser on Syrian affairs at the Saudi Ministry of Investment, and Ahmed bin Abdul Razzaq bin Daoud, a board member of Bin Daoud Investment Company, alongside representatives from Hesco Design Company and the legal teams of both parties. The Syrian side was represented by the authority's deputies and a number of department directors.
The agreement, signed on 7 February 2026 under the auspices of Syria's transitional president Ahmad Al-Sharaa, covers the development and operation of the existing Aleppo International Airport and the construction of a new international airport in northern Syria with a projected capacity of 12 million passengers. It also includes financing an integrated radar navigation system covering Syrian airspace in its entirety.
This cooperation forms part of a broader effort to rebuild Syria's civil aviation sector and modernize its infrastructure, positioning Aleppo as a key hub on regional and international air routes while supporting trade and tourism in the city.
