In a significant move toward regional economic integration, the transport ministers of Syria, Jordan, and Turkey signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in Amman. This agreement aims to revitalize transport and logistics connectivity, following extensive ministerial deliberations on enhancing mutual cooperation. The signing took place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Amman, with a high-level attendance of public and private sector experts.
The MoU establishes a robust institutional and technical framework, which includes the formation of joint technical committees and sectoral working groups. These bodies are tasked with developing unified plans to synchronize procedures across the three nations. A core focus of this cooperation is the digital transformation of the transport sector, utilizing smart solutions and investment-backed projects to streamline cross-border movement and improve supply chain efficiency.
A central pillar of the agreement is the enhancement of regional rail connectivity. A specialized trilateral committee has been formed to oversee the implementation of rail projects, with a particular focus on the historical Hejaz Railway. Syrian Transport Minister Yarob Badr emphasized that a three-year strategic roadmap has been established to define specific activities and timelines for transport institutions. This roadmap is intended to activate the "Middle East Corridor," leveraging the unique geographic advantages of the three countries to link global markets from the north to the south and east to the west.
