Idlib province has reactivated 157 administrative units across its cities, towns and villages, as part of an integrated plan to rebuild local administration after years of these institutions being out of service.
Idlib Governor Mohammed Abdul Rahman said the province worked to restore the legal, administrative and financial authority of administrative units, granting municipalities the ability to exercise their functions under the law. This included returning revenues to municipalities and opening the necessary bank accounts to deposit and manage these funds within legal frameworks.
According to the governor, support was not limited to buildings but also included direct financial resources for municipalities, through grants provided to a number of administrative units to carry out maintenance and repair of sewage networks, roads and basic services.
Abdul Rahman noted that the province is working to raise the efficiency of its human resources through training and qualification courses, with a focus on strengthening the technical offices within administrative units so they can prepare studies and plans, follow up on projects, and supervise implementation according to technical and legal standards.
The governor affirmed continued support for local councils until they reach full financial and administrative independence and the capacity to fully perform their functions.
