
Syria's Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management announced on Tuesday the removal of approximately 747,000 cubic metres of rubble over the past three months. The work was carried out through dedicated, organised projects across a number of Syrian governorates. The Ministry clarified that these figures cover only structured rubble-removal projects and do not include routine daily service operations.
According to Ministry data, Idlib governorate recorded the highest volume of rubble removed, at approximately 400,000 cubic metres, followed by Aleppo with 147,000 cubic metres and Hama with 141,000 cubic metres.
The Ministry stated that these efforts form part of the national recovery track, aimed at improving service conditions and creating a safer environment for residents. The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management is a newly established body, founded in March 2025 under Minister Raed al-Saleh, the former head of the White Helmets organisation.
A report published by the Response Coordinators team at the start of this year estimated the total volume of concrete rubble at approximately 6.9 million tonnes in the first phase of assessment. The report documented extensive damage across multiple sectors, including:
Rubble-removal projects continue across multiple governorates. The Ministry has launched operations in areas of Aleppo governorate, while similar work is under way in rural Latakia in cooperation with the Syrian Civil Defence. In Deir ez-Zor, a project to relocate 75,000 tonnes of rubble has been initiated with United Nations support.
