Decision No. 160

Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal Al-Shaar issued Decision No. 160 on 6 October 2026, forming the Syrian-Australian Business Council on the Syrian side. It is the 25th council in the Syrian joint business councils system. The decision names it as the only council accredited on the Syrian side for relations with Australia.

Council Composition

  • Chair: Marwan Al-Dabbagh
  • Vice Presidents: Maria Al-Maqdisi and Louay Al-Rifai
  • Executive Director: Johnny Abbo
  • Director of Relations and Communication: Khaled Al-Muthib
  • Treasurer: Dr. Ammar Al-Hamad
  • Secretary: Ibrahim Aqbiq

Purpose

The council is meant to build a direct institutional channel between the business communities in Syria and Australia, connect companies with opportunities, activate trade and investment relations, and develop B2B partnerships. The Syrian Council for Coordinating Joint Business Councils will follow up and support its work.

For Companies

The council invites business people, companies and anyone interested in Syrian-Australian economic relations to contact it and put forward cooperation opportunities and initiatives. The announcement does not publish contact details.

Separately, the platform earlier reported on the launch of the Syrian-Australian Chamber of Commerce in Melbourne.
