The Ministry of Public Works and Housing continued implementing its tasks in February within the plan to rehabilitate damaged infrastructure across various governorates, in addition to accelerating the pace of urban recovery and developing the housing sector. Based on this, the Ministry intensified its efforts last month, launching strategic projects and enhancing cooperation with local and international entities. This report reviews the most prominent activities and projects implemented or monitored
First - Infrastructure and Rehabilitation Projects: The Syrian Establishment for Building and Construction began construction work on the Old Raqqa Bridge in Raqqa Governorate, as part of the Ministry's plan to rehabilitate damaged infrastructure in the governorate and enhance the road network. Rehabilitation works for the main Raqqa Bridge (Al-Rashid Bridge) were also resumed, with work proceeding according to the specified schedule, aiming to hand over the project ready for pedestrian crossing within 15 days. Furthermore, excavation works resumed in the Marj Al-Zawiya area at kilometer 135.450, as part of the Ariha-Lattakia road maintenance project. This includes removing the previously laid stone layer and increasing the excavation depth to reach the required foundation layer, while utilizing the excavated materials to implement a traffic detour at bridge B46, contributing to raising the road's readiness and improving the level of service and traffic safety.
Second - Completion Committees and Accelerating Stalled Projects: On another note, the Daraa Completion Committee held its first meeting under the supervision of the Deputy Minister and the Deputy Governor, to discuss joint needs and accelerate the implementation of stalled projects through a rapid response mechanism that involves addressing problems directly or following up with relevant authorities. In parallel, the Minister visited the governorates of Homs, Hama, and Lattakia, where completion committees were formed to follow up on stalled projects, setting clear timetables after overcoming administrative and technical obstacles, ensuring accelerated implementation and bringing projects into service within specific timeframes. The Idlib Governorate Completion Committee also held two meetings to follow up on projects and inspect the progress of work.
Third - Developing the Housing Sector and Cooperative Housing: In Damascus, a meeting was held with the boards of directors of cooperative housing associations in Damascus and its countryside to discuss the mechanism for developing this sector and enhancing its contribution to the housing plan. Emphasis was placed on reactivating it and enabling it to perform its role in offering residential units that contribute to lowering prices and meeting housing needs.
