On Monday 14 September 2026, Syria's Assistant Minister of Transport met Lebanon's Minister of Public Works and Transport to discuss completing the Syria-Lebanon rail link and to review the results of a technical tour by the Syrian delegation along the line on the Lebanese side, according to the Syrian Ministry of Transport's official accounts as reported by Al-Ikhbariah Al-Souriya.
The talks also covered the possibility of linking Tripoli Port to the Syrian rail network via Akkari station and on to Homs, to support transport and trade between the two countries.
The ministry said the Assistant Minister stressed the importance of completing the technical and economic studies, ahead of a joint workshop on economic feasibility, estimated cost, funding sources and the implementation mechanism. The steps follow the tests and studies needed to define the final rehabilitation requirements. The announcement does not state a cost, funding source, contractor or timeline.
