Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad Yosser Barnieh met with a delegation from the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), part of the World Bank Group, to discuss ways of providing investment risk guarantees in Syria, a step aimed at strengthening confidence in the business environment and attracting capital.
The Ministry of Finance said via its Telegram channel that the meeting was held at the ministry's headquarters in Damascus and covered ways to facilitate the agency's direct provision of investment risk guarantee services in Syria, as well as accelerating the agency's engagement with investors in support of the broader investment environment.
During the meeting, Minister Barnieh stressed the importance of partnership and coordination with the World Bank, continuous communication with its institutions, and cooperation in providing suitable guarantees for investors, particularly for large strategic projects.
For its part, the MIGA delegation confirmed the agency's readiness to study the guarantee of a number of investment projects and to provide all the services it offers, while working to deepen cooperation and coordination in support of the success of investments and projects in Syria.
The meeting follows a workshop organized by the Ministry of Finance on September 30, with the participation of a delegation of World Bank experts, on the fundamental principles of public debt sustainability analysis, as part of efforts to strengthen technical cooperation with international institutions and develop public financial management and public debt handling.
