Saint Simeon Stylites Column Returned to Its Original Place at Deir and Qalaat Simeon in Aleppo Countryside

The ancient column of Saint Simeon Stylites was returned to its original place at the Deir and Qalaat Simeon site in the Jabal Simeon area of the western Aleppo countryside, according to the Aleppo Governorate. The site had suffered damage in previous years.

The column dates back about 16 centuries and is described as one of the prominent religious and historical landmarks in Syria.

Parties involved

The work was part of the rehabilitation and restoration of the site, carried out under the sponsorship of the Aleppo Governorate in cooperation with:

• the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums;
• the Directorate of Technical Services;
• the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management;
• the Council of Heads of Christian Communities in Aleppo.
