Reopening in Safita

The Syrian Bakeries Establishment reopened the Safita automated bakery in Tartus governorate on Friday, 25 September 2026, after full rehabilitation and upgrading. Daily capacity rises from 23 to more than 36 tonnes, to supply bread to Safita city and about 40 surrounding villages. The source headline puts the population served at over 130,000.

Scope of the works

  • installation of three new production lines with three ovens;
  • upgrading of the electrical and water networks;
  • development of the fuel systems;
  • provision of a standby generator.

Support and context

The announcement credits the German government and the World Food Programme (WFP) with supporting the project's rehabilitation, equipment and higher capacity. It describes the bakery as one of the largest of its kind in the country and says work on rehabilitating other bakeries along the Syrian coast will continue. The report gives no cost figure or contractor name.

In August the Ministry of Economy and Industry, together with WFP, had reopened the automated Al-Marjeh bakery in Aleppo.
