The Ministry of Energy announced the opening of a booster water line from Zeta Dam to Ain al-Tannour lake in Homs. The line is 2 km long with a diameter of 600 mm and a transport capacity of 15,000 m³ per day. It is intended to offset the shortfall in water from the Ain al-Tannour spring and to stabilise supply to the city. The Assistant Minister of Energy opened the project.
The project was carried out in partnership between the Homs General Establishment for Drinking Water and Sanitation and the Syrian Development Organization, under the sponsorship of Homs governorate and as part of the "Homs Wednesday" works campaign.
The ministry describes the line as the first phase of a package of strategic projects to strengthen water security in Homs. It says the project will improve irrigation and reduce the deficit in water resources. The announcement does not state a cost, funding source or the later phases.
