Works launched in southern Hasakah

The General Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation in Hasakah governorate, in cooperation with Action Against Hunger, has begun rehabilitating two water desalination plants in the Al-Arayshah area, in the south of the governorate. The stated aim is to meet residents' drinking water needs.

Scope and capacity

According to the company director, the works cover full maintenance and rehabilitation of both plants, including fittings and equipment, and supplying them with what is needed to return them to service. The company says this will provide drinking water for about 10,000 people in Al-Arayshah and surrounding villages.

  • Al-Arayshah 1: about 10 cubic metres of drinking water per hour.
  • Al-Arayshah 2: about 4 cubic metres per hour.

Combined, the two plants are rated at about 14 cubic metres per hour. The announcement gives no budget, contractor or completion date.

Wider plant rehabilitation plan

The company director said the works are part of the company's plan to rehabilitate and maintain a number of desalination plants and put them into service as soon as possible. The plan also covers the plants of Al-Shaddadi, Abdan, Abu Fas, Tal Al-Shayer, Adla and Al-Azzawi. About two weeks earlier, the company and Action Against Hunger launched maintenance and rehabilitation of the Al-Shaddadi city desalination plant, intended to serve about 15,000 people.
