With the Hannover Docks, a new working environment was created in the industrial area of Linden Harbor, close to the water. The "main dock," a previously rather inconspicuous warehouse building, was given a new look and modernized for energy efficiency. The old facade elements made of exposed aggregate concrete slabs were replaced with a thermally insulated timber-frame facade. The existing concrete skeleton structure was retained and partially reinforced. The building structure of the neighboring "secondary dock" was also fully preserved, with some sections being supplemented and modernized for energy efficiency. In close collaboration between the client, planning office, and tenants, a variety of barrier-free, and individual usage units were created within the existing building. These include the ecological and energy-efficient production of the organic artisan bakery Backwerk, with a factory outlet on the ground floor, and various office uses.
