UNICEF's representative in Syria, Meritxell Relano Arana, carried out a field visit on Thursday, 16 April 2025, covering the governorates of Aleppo, Idlib, and Raqqa to assess progress on projects spanning education, water, health, and community services.
In Aleppo, the visit marked the inauguration of Al-Kifah Secondary School following its full rehabilitation. The school will now provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for more than 1,000 girls, having been out of service for over fourteen years.
In Idlib, a new water station was opened in the Sayda area. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to supply safe and reliable water to more than 150,000 people, contributing to improved public health outcomes, particularly for children.
In Raqqa, UNICEF continues its efforts to deliver health services and expand vaccination outreach as part of broader programs aimed at sustaining essential services and improving access to education, water, and healthcare across targeted areas.
In a related development, UNICEF announced in November 2024 the delivery of two batches of life-saving vaccines to Syria's Ministry of Health, funded by the Government of South Korea. The vaccines are expected to reach approximately 500,000 children under the age of five across all Syrian governorates, ensuring each child receives the protection needed for healthy development.
UNICEF affirmed that its partnership with South Korea reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Syria's national immunization system and building a healthier future for all Syrian children.
