The Public Establishment for Drinking Water and Sanitation in Rif Dimashq, working with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the International Committee of the Red Cross, began on Wednesday the second phase of the project to improve drinking water in the city of Al-Dumayr.
This phase involves excavating and laying a water pipeline with a diameter of 200 millimetres and a length of 600 metres, to connect the eastern and western district networks and improve water distribution.
The head of the Al-Dumayr water unit, Ali Sharaf al-Din, told SANA that the new line runs from the Sheikh Okasha cemetery area to the Al-Rahiba roundabout.
Sharaf al-Din explained that linking the two networks improves water access for subscribers in the Sheikh Okasha district, where some residents experience weak supply.
He added that the project extends the drinking water network to buildings along Al-Rahiba road, allowing their residents to subscribe to the service.
According to Sharaf al-Din, the current phase is expected to take about one month. It completes the first phase, which included:
The project forms part of efforts to develop drinking water infrastructure in Al-Dumayr and raise network efficiency, by improving supply sources and expanding transmission lines and links between districts.
