
France has said that the launch of a technical assistance programme for the Central Bank of Syria is a new step in strengthening bilateral cooperation with Damascus. The statement came in a post on the X platform by Jean-Baptiste Faivre, chargé d'affaires of the French Embassy in Syria.
On Wednesday, the Central Bank of Syria launched, together with a French technical mission, a project to support and strengthen the bank's institutional and technical capacity in banking supervision, monetary policy and liquidity management.
Faivre said the launch reflects a commitment Paris made during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Damascus last July.

Faivre added that France is putting its technical and financial expertise at the service of strengthening Syria's economic and financial institutions, describing the initiative as a new concrete step within the partnership with Syria and in support of efforts to develop the financial and banking sector.
On 7 July 2026, the Central Bank of Syria announced the reactivation of its banking relationship with the Banque de France by restarting its account at the bank, which contributes to financial and technical cooperation between the two sides.
