Bab al-Hawa: 95,000 Trucks, 602,000 Travelers in 8 Months

Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey recorded the passage of 95,247 commercial trucks in both directions during the first eight months of the current year, carrying more than 2,104,000 tons of goods.

Passenger Movement

Over the same period, more than 602,000 travelers crossed the border in both directions, while the crossing received about 64,000 Syrian citizens returning voluntarily to their homeland.

Customs Facilitation

The crossing offers customs facilitation and simplified procedures adopted by the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports and Customs to speed up transaction processing and ensure smooth traffic flow, supporting trade exchange between Syria and Turkey and boosting the movement of transit trade convoys across Syrian territory.

Expansion Project

Work continues on the expansion project of Bab al-Hawa crossing and the upgrade of its infrastructure, including:

• Development of cargo yards
• Upgrading truck transit lanes
• Preparing passenger halls
• Developing service and customs facilities

The expansion project aims to raise the crossing's capacity, reduce waiting times, speed up procedures, and enhance its ability to serve trade and transit traffic amid the continuous increase in the number of travelers and trucks.

Official Statement

Qutaiba Badawi, head of the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports and Customs, stated on August 13 that the authority is working on expanding and developing Bab al-Hawa crossing by updating cargo yards, buildings, facilities and truck and passenger transit lanes, adding that the developed crossing was expected to open within three months.
