The rehabilitation and expansion project of the Bab al-Hawa border crossing in Idlib Governorate is one of Syria's most crucial strategic infrastructure projects for 2026. Executed by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in coordination with the General Authority for Crossings and Customs, the project aims to significantly enhance the crossing's operational efficiency, securing its position as the primary economic artery for passenger movement and trade between Syria and Turkey
The engineering works encompass the complete rehabilitation of the arrival and departure halls to accommodate up to 10,000 travelers daily. Due to ongoing road expansions, a new gate will be constructed adjacent to the current one to handle increased capacity. The construction plan also involves building a massive parking facility outside the crossing premises to organize truck and car traffic, effectively preventing congestion and ensuring a smooth flow of vehicles
The project receives intense governmental focus, with recent inspection tours by the Minister of Public Works and Housing to ensure steady progress. This expansion reinforces the crossing's role in revitalizing the Syrian national economy. It meets upcoming developmental demands by expediting logistical procedures and providing a modern transit environment that adheres to international standards and stimulates regional trade
