The mill and silos in the town of Tal Rifaat, in northern rural Aleppo, have been rehabilitated and re-equipped, and were opened on 1 November 2026 after a stoppage of about 14 years. The facility aims to strengthen wheat storage and milling capacity, support food security and supply bakeries with flour.
The project was carried out in cooperation between the Syrian Grain Establishment and the organisations Shafak and Global Communities.
Aleppo governorate marketed about 350,000 tonnes of wheat this year, and the Syrian Grain Establishment is rehabilitating its facilities so that the entire harvest can be stored in silos.
Rehabilitation is complete and the facility has opened; the silo is due to start receiving wheat from the next season.
