Overview

A project to maintain and rehabilitate the new distribution facility at the Qusayr drinking water station, implemented by the General Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation in Hama Governorate in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and announced by the Ministry of Energy on 12 October 2026. It aims to strengthen the reliability of the drinking water system and secure an alternative supply source.

Beneficiaries

The project serves more than 1.5 million people in 65 residential communities across Hama and Homs governorates.

Objective

The project allows water to be drawn from Zeita Dam when the upper Orontes River cannot be relied upon because its water quality changes during winter floods, keeping drinking water supply continuous and reducing the risk of service interruptions.

Scope of Works

  • Restoring the facility's structural building and constructing a protective wall.
  • Rehabilitating the metal gates and the distribution chamber.
  • Fitting four new gates for switching flows between stations.
  • Building an electrical line to supply the facility from the main station.
  • Replacing the damaged section of the supply pipeline from Zeita Dam.
  • Covering the exposed sections of the water line entering the station.

Current Stage

Technical crews have started the civil and technical rehabilitation works.
