On 3 February 2026 Syria's Ministry of Health and UNDP signed an agreement funded by the German government through KfW Development Bank to rehabilitate and equip five public hospitals.
Both SANA and UNDP put EUR 30 million against these five hospitals.
The two sources diverge on the parallel component of 25 dispensaries and primary health care centres. SANA values it at EUR 5 million, while UNDP describes it as a separate KfW SIGA grant. Because the sources disagree on whether it belongs to the same envelope, no single headline total is stated here.
The agreement is signed. Contractor awards, works schedules and completion dates are not published in the sources checked. The project spans five governorates, so no single governorate is recorded against it.
Update — 2026-03-26
The project has moved from signature to fieldwork at the first of its sites. SANA reported on 26 March 2026 that the Hama Health Directorate began clearing rubble from the Halfaya hospital site in implementation of the cooperation agreement signed with UNDP, with a first phase that removed about 800 cubic metres of debris to prepare the site. According to the same report, the next phases cover launching comprehensive engineering studies and preparing technical drawings on a defined schedule.
In the same coverage SANA states that total funding is EUR 35 million, of which EUR 30 million is allocated to rehabilitating the five hospitals, provided by the German government through the KfW Development Bank. SANA's English service had reported at the signing on 3 February 2026 that the five hospitals are Jisr al-Shughur Hospital in Idlib, Halfaya Hospital in Hama, Taldo Hospital in Homs and the National Hospital in al-Bukamal, alongside the outpatient and paediatric departments at Daraa National Hospital.
