Syria's Ministry of Energy has announced the inauguration of four new electrical substations in the Al-Sha'ar neighborhood of the Al-Halwaniyya area in Aleppo, implemented by the General Company for Aleppo Electricity. The project forms part of a comprehensive plan to rebuild the electrical grid across the city's eastern districts, with a target of connecting more than 50,000 subscribers within 180 days at a total cost of 5 million USD.
The activation of the four substations has restored electricity to approximately 15,000 residents in eastern Aleppo, areas that had endured prolonged outages affecting homes, vital facilities, and commercial establishments alike. Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir described the inauguration as a first step in a broader effort to restore power across all affected areas.
The new substations are designed to enhance the reliability of power supply and improve grid stability throughout the eastern neighborhoods. Project works encompass the rehabilitation of electrical networks and distribution substations, addressing the severe damage sustained by the power infrastructure during years of conflict.
The project is backed by the Aleppo Governorate under the "Aleppo, Mother of All" campaign, and falls within the Ministry of Energy's broader strategy for rebuilding the electricity sector and upgrading its infrastructure citywide. The Ministry had formally announced the project's launch on 9 March of this year.
Minister al-Bashir confirmed that work is ongoing to restore electricity to all remaining affected neighborhoods, noting that the project supports the resumption of services and urban activity in eastern Aleppo, and marks a meaningful step toward normalizing daily life for thousands of families after years of deprivation.
