About the Project
A project to rehabilitate Extension II of the Deir Ali power plant in Rif Dimashq, about 30 kilometres south of Damascus. The plant is among the most important power generation facilities in the country: at full operation its total installed capacity is 1,450 MW, and it supplies large parts of Syria through the national grid.
Scope and Figures
- A USD 10.7 million funding agreement signed in Damascus on 11 February 2026.
- Italy contributes EUR 5 million (a first phase of a broader rehabilitation framework for the plant) and Norway USD 5.1 million.
- The works cover two units of Extension II and their auxiliaries: technical assessments, urgent maintenance, supply and installation of critical spare parts, supervision of installation works, and training of engineers and technicians.
- The project is expected to restore about 120 MW of generation capacity to the grid, serving more than two million people in Rif Dimashq, Daraa, Quneitra and As-Suwayda.
