A comprehensive overhaul and rehabilitation of the Banias Refinery on the Syrian coast in Tartus governorate, carried out by the Syrian Petroleum Company to raise the refinery's readiness, production efficiency and capacity to supply petroleum products to the local market. It is the first overhaul of this scale in the refinery's history.
The works rely mainly on national expertise in cooperation with qualified local companies, drawing on specialised expertise when needed. As announced in September 2026, the distillation and power plant works were expected to take about two months, with the reforming section needing an additional month because its reactor had not been replaced for more than forty years. The company and the Ministry of Energy drew up a plan to secure petroleum products during the overhaul.
