A project to rehabilitate the Al-Lajj and Basida drinking-water pumping stations in rural Idlib. The stations returned to service on 6 September 2026 after being out of operation for about 14 years, to supply drinking water to around 430,000 people in some 42 towns and villages.
As part of GOAL's works at the Al-Lajj First Station, a solar system of 720 panels rated at 620 W each and a modern chlorination system were installed.
The works were carried out in cooperation between the Ministry of Energy, Idlib Governorate and the General Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation in Idlib, with participation from organisations including GOAL, World Vision, Amal Organization for Relief and Development and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. GOAL's works at Al-Lajj were funded by the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation through the SANAD II programme.
Rehabilitation is complete and both stations are in service; pumping to the towns and villages is being extended gradually as the distribution networks are tested and repaired.
