Rashmi Metaliks pioneered pellet manufacturing in West Bengal and now runs one of the largest pellet plants in eastern India, with an installed capacity of 9 MTPA. The pellets are used as a high-grade feed material for blast furnaces and direct reduction units, replacing or supplementing iron ore lumps.
Compared with run-of-mine lumps, pellets reduce metallurgical losses, support faster reduction, raise metallisation rates, and resist degradation during handling. The plant supplies pellets to internal blast furnace and DRI units as well as to third-party steel and sponge iron producers.
Plant capacity: 9 MTPA
Product: Iron ore pellets, multiple grades
Performance attributes stated by manufacturer: Superior to iron ore lumps, corrosion resistant against handling degradation, supports faster reduction and higher metallisation rate inside reduction units
