An opportunity to rehabilitate the railway line linking Aleppo and Latakia as a complete system rather than track alone. The published scope covers rehabilitation of the line with full replacement of missing components, rehabilitation of administrative and service buildings and station buildings, rehabilitation of all rail bridges, culverts and tunnels, and a signalling and communications system.
What this means for a rebuilding company: the work is simultaneously permanent-way, civil and systems. The permanent-way package covers earthworks, supply of rails, sleepers and ballast, and track laying, alignment and tamping. The civil package covers bridge strengthening, concrete repair, culverts and tunnel linings, plus station buildings with structural, finishing and MEP works. The systems package covers signalling, control, telecoms networks and power supply along the route. The project also draws on surveyors, materials-testing laboratories, and suppliers of steel, concrete and cabling.
