Meeting with the Two Companies

Omar Al-Husari, head of Syria's General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport, held a meeting on Wednesday, 22 July, with a joint delegation from Al-Rawdhan & Al-Mutawa Holding of Kuwait and Limak of Turkey. The discussions focused on mechanisms for developing Deir ez-Zor International Airport, as part of broader efforts to modernise Syrian aviation infrastructure.

Preliminary Expansion Plan

The delegation presented an initial plan covering the expansion and upgrading of the airport's facilities. The plan aims to raise operational efficiency and increase the airport's capacity to accommodate anticipated growth in passenger and cargo traffic. No further details regarding timelines or estimated project values were disclosed at this stage.

New Direct Flights to Kuwait

The talks follow a series of steps to strengthen air connectivity between Syria and Kuwait. Syrian Air announced on Friday, 17 July, that it would launch regular direct flights between Kuwait City and Deir ez-Zor starting 3 August, as part of an expansion of its international route network.

Civil Aviation Authority's Position

The General Authority for Civil Aviation stated that these developments are intended to reinforce air links between Syria and Kuwait and to provide additional travel options for passengers in both countries. The development of Deir ez-Zor Airport is considered a key element of this strategy, given the city's strategic location in eastern Syria.
