The General Establishment for Free Zones has signed 8 investment contracts with 4 local, Arab and foreign companies in the Al-Tanf and Al-Yarubiyah free zones on the Syrian-Iraqi border. According to the General Authority for Ports and Customs, the contracts mark the start of investment activity in both zones.
The contracts are split evenly between the two zones:
Together, the two areas total roughly 625,000 square meters.
The contracted investments cover the following activities:
The Authority said this contributes to diversifying economic activity in the two zones and widening the services offered to investors and freight traffic.
The Authority stated that the importance of the contracts stems from the strategic location of the two zones and the opportunities they offer to strengthen trade links between Iraq, the Arab Gulf states and Syrian ports, extending to Turkish and European markets, and to develop transport and transit routes among regional countries.
The eight contracts give trading, logistics and industrial firms a reference point in two free zones where investment activity has begun. Companies seeking details on investing in the zones should contact the General Establishment for Free Zones and the General Authority for Ports and Customs.
